Should Every Student go to College?


College presents a perfect opportunity for every student to increase their level of academic competency. Postsecondary education inspires learners to attain their goals. It is an essential ingredient for the growth in demand for college-educated workers and a gateway into the middle class. A report conducted by the College Board states that, out of a hundred students in the United States, only sixty-seven complete high schools with thirty-eight finding their way to college and eighteen managing to enroll for associate or bachelor’s degree (College Board 2). The figures indicate how relevant college education is for opening a life full of options as opposed to limitations. Despite the need for many high school students to engage in activities that generate an income shortly after graduation, the current job market continues to be competitive. Accordingly, a college education is pertinent because, it prepares a student for higher paying jobs, opens the doors for endless opportunities, and gain experience for improving the community.

College graduates have a higher potential of earning better pay in mainstream employment. Currently, it is nearly impossible for high school alumnus to get jobs. The U.S economy has largely increased to an economy that depends on knowledge. College education facilitates graduates to compete competitively for the jobs available in the market. Contrary, high school graduates are only limited to less remunerating tasks that are not only demanding but also have low returns. The prospect to have better pay as a result of being a college graduate increases the need of having a college education. Besides, studies indicate that four-year college degree graduates earn more than twice as much as a person having a college degree in their portfolio (Office of the President 5). Thus, college education propels a graduate’s career path into the employment sector through worthier pay and better job prospects.

Individuals with a college degree or diploma have the ability to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired in higher learning to the maximum. For instance, the increase in the adoption of technology has presented endless possibilities for information and technology graduates to create applications that tackle problems facing industries. Additionally, college gives a student the opportunity to meet with a variety of people, experiences, and challenges. These aspects amicably equip the learner with decision making and analytical skills required in various developmental areas such as self-employment and creating partnerships. With a college education, the student’s life is shaped in a manner that is beneficial to the society (College Board 16). Accordingly, a college education is essential for opening vast avenues of openings for the graduates to derive benefits from their expertise and intelligence.

College education helps the students to improve their communities. Through college, the learners can meet and associate with peers from different communities and backgrounds. This makes in interesting to build connections based on student’s disparities culturally. Additionally, college teaches the learners on how to adhere to the institution’s regulations and the laws of the country. That way, a graduate gains the relevant aptitude for relating well to the society. Upon graduation, the student serves as a role model to other children in the community through emphasizing on the need for education beyond high school level. The college graduates can also be resourceful by applying their dogma and expertise in activities that better the neighborhoods (Office of the President 43). Such activities can involve crime watch, guidance and counseling, helping the needy and volunteering to teach children in high schools and elementary schools. Thus, it takes college education for an individual to master the art of impacting the society positively.

Higher education shapes the lifestyle of a student. College gives the opportunity for a child to meet with different people in the professional sector through coursework and attachments (College Board 15). Through their interactions, these professionals become role models for the students. Ultimately, the learner nurtures the need to aspire and achieve greater objectives in life. The graduates are influenced to have a positive impact in the professional environment and live a better life. Also, college issues the student the chance to select their preferred career path and concentrate on developing it. The options encourage the learner to indulge in activities that build their skills based on a career of choice. These flexibilities of college education assist in molding the student’s future.

In summary, college education plays a pivotal role in developing the lives of the students. Despite having employment chances past high school education, college education prepares the learner to meet more challenges in future. Accordingly, a college graduate stands a greater chance of securing better-paying jobs and increases employment expectations. Apart from mainstream jobs, college graduates can utilize their expertise by indulging in activities that promote self-employment. This aspect removes the barriers that limit a person from obtaining a job due to their limited levels of education, common with high school graduates. On the other hand, college shapes the style of living as a result of meeting people of various character and ambitions. Most importantly, higher learning enables an individual to be a better citizen and participate in doings that uphold the welfare the community.
